The purpose of this Handbook is to consider the implications for cervical cancer screening of the advances that have been made over the past 20 years, and of the changing patterns of cervical cancer incidence. In particular, it gives an evidence-based critical evaluation of the efficacy and effectiveness of the modalities currently available for cervical cancer screening, and of their relative appropriateness depending on the resources available and competing priorities.
